President Macky Sall of Senegal has call on World Bank after he met with the World Bank President Mr. David Malpass on the second day of the World Water forum and relinquished on his request for the international institution to support African and other developing countries through the special drawing system.
On the second day of the World Water Forum which kicked off in Dakar, the Senegalese president and Macky Sall met with World Bank president.
The two top national and international officials discussed on the problems and possible solution to tackle the water crisis, economic recovery and special schemes for third world countries which was also part of the agenda.
“I have suggested that the world bank looks into the possibility of implementing the bank’s crisis and emergency response policy, Macky Sall said.
Its purpose is to support countries facing severe economic crisis, natural disasters and food insecurity. Unfortunately, Africa faces a three dimensional crisis, the situation could not be more serious, so it was essential that this mechanism be implemented”.
The leader emphasized on the consequences of the Russia – Ukraine conflict on the global economy, Sall reiterated his request that Africa be granted funds through the special drawing rights system.
The SDR system is an international reserve asset, developed by the IMF to support it member countries. The international community had accepted to provide Africa with a sum of 33 billion USD out of a 650 billion USD post covid scheme but the African union reiterated that the amount is not enough.
In the Dakar arena, international institutions, NGOs and business leaders continued to work to find a solution to the deteriorating water supply and sanitation issues at the world water forum.
The world water day was celebrated during the 9th world water forum, the first taking place in a sub – Saharan African country. Actors raised awareness among the public on the billion s of people still living without access to portable water.
