The Nigeria’s public universities has been shutdown for 6 months following FG inability to honor the agreement that was initially agreed with the institution Lecturers union in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
This Reason has led to uncountable number of abrupt shut down of the academic institution of which the current one started in February and still counting
After several failed negotiation meetings held between them, the two parties at loggerhead had scheduled a meeting which was held yesterday in a view to settle their impasse, and probably calling off the strike.
The Meeting was led by prof. Nimi Briggs and his committee where they met with ASUU represententatives at the National University Commission in Abuja.
Unfortunately, the meeting which many had hoped to be the last to resolve the dispute between the FG and striking lecturer ended without any positive feedback from any of the team
One of the striking lecturers representative (anonymous) revealed to channel TV that the Prof. Nimi Briggs and his committee came with no fresh offer but instead, the committee pleadS to the union to suspend the strike while negotiation goes on.
The meeting had started at about 12pm, lasted for 3 hours and still no agreement was reached between/among the parties
