Seven others were further reported to be injured severely after the army patrol was ambushed by some unknown fighters in western Mali

Eight gallant soldiers have been martyred while seven others were severely injured as their patrol was waylaid by an unknown armed group in western Mali.

The attack took place during the daytime on Wednesday near the town of Nara which was about 19 miles close to the border with Mauritania

An official statement from the army thus read as follows: “a unit in the Nara area was the target of a complex attack combining IEDs (improvised explosive devices ) and heavy weapons,”

Before this attack was perpetrated, the army had earlier given a provisional death of four of their members.

So far, no group has yet to claim responsibility for the attack

A brigade in Niena in the far South of the country was also attacked on Wednesday. However, no injuries nor causalities was caused upon the attack

While at the centre of the country, another attack was staged again in the evening which was targeted at the Hambori. Though there was no also any damage or causality that was recorded

Mali of recently has been the bane of an armed uprising that started in the northern part of the country in 2012 and spread across neighbouring countries s of Niger and Burkina Faso

Across these regions, thousands of people have died while about two million were displaced by the conflict

Despite the presence of French and United Nations cartels in these countries to curb the widespread of these conflicts, the conflict has rather spread more in Burkina Faso and Niger

France intervened in 2013 with a total number of 5,000 soldiers in this region but has made a plan to lower the number to 2,500 – 3,000 by 2023
