The Leader’s Vision Preparatory school in Kenya which is been attended by average kids in the country.
However, Priscilla Sitienei 98 has enrolled popularly known as Gogo has enrolled herself among those kids to fulfil her interest in school.
Despite her old age, the 98 years old Priscilla dressed in the school official uniform just like others and is always active in any school related activities in midst of kids that are young enough to be her grandchildren
After the Kenyan government had announced that they will support the basic school in the country in 2003, Priscilla who has never attended any school before capitalize on the opportunity and enrolled herself on her desired school.
The 98 years old is currently in grade six and according to her teachers, her performance in all her subjects is quite impressive.
According to one of her teachers, Mrs, Leonida Tallam, her favourite subjects are science, Christian religious studies and mathematics.
“When she is attending those classes, she is very attentive. She is very, very keenly attentive and she also has good handwriting. Her handwriting is the best in the class” says Tallam.
The teacher further added that “Gogo motivated the pupils because of this being attentive in class, working hard in class and producing good results”
Mrs Priscilla has proven to be an inspiring and encouraging individual to some students who were unable to complete their academic studies and have never started any.
The 98 years old thus became famous for her rare decision to enrol into a school dominated by average kids; she is now an actress and has starred in a movie tattled, ‘Gogo’ which is about a story about her educational journey.
The movie was launched in Paris, France and she will soon travel to New York, US to promote the movie
One of her grandsons, Protus Kemboi praises his grandmother while expressing his joy, he said:
“My grandmother is a true testimony that education has no limit, in such a way that she has made me further my education and I am so happy for her. She is really an icon, a motivational icon and a role model”
Priscilla always involve herself in all aspect of school, including physical education classes and activities and she revealed that she’s is not willing to stop seeking knowledge anytime soon.
“I used to work as a traditional midwife where I would help women undergoing birth complications that arose. I am now studying to become a doctor. I don’t think education has an age limit” she says
According to Priscilla, she intended to become an icon of motivation to the younger generation particularly, the young girls.
She says: “Please help girls to get an education. All children should get an education without discrimination. I love going to school as it makes me stronger. I encourage children to study”.
The younger pupils in the school are happy to have her in their midst and they said that her presence has made them wiser, smarter and more serious with their studies.
One of the pupils Melvin Misos who is 12 years said: “For me, I always top of my class but when we did a zonal exam, she beat me and became at the top of the class. That’s when I knew that I must read hard so that ‘Gogo’ like that can’t pass me anymore.”
